Juniperus horizontalis

  • Very low-growing plant, sometimes only 1cm high, forming large round mats
  • Needle colours vary from green to blue to maroon; winter colours are as variable as summer colours
  • Small inconspicuous cones mature into blue berry-like cones that persist through the winter
  • Cones takes two years to mature; first-year cones are green and ripe cones are dark blue

  • Use in hot, dry, south-facing slopes or sites
  • Maximize attractiveness in a landscape by planting on a slope
  • Very drought-tolerant
