  • A variable plant from a dense thicket 2m high to a more common small tree to 8m high with a broad head
  • Heavily branched with 5cm thorns
  • Young branches are dark red, with an interesting bend at each node
  • Green leaves in summer turn to deep reds and oranges in the fall
  • 1cm red fruit hangs on through the winter

Landscape Use:

  • Use where a small but very attractive tree is needed
  • Very high-security plant, impenetrable barrier
  • Attractive white flowers with bright red edible fruit (haws) in the fall
  • Good bird habitat
  • Prefers a sunny site

Special Conditions:

  • This is a prairie plant, so do not overwater
  • Very sharp thorns, use with caution
