Ponderosa Pine

Pinus ponderosa

• A broad headed pine up to 10m tall in Montana, probably similar in Alberta
• Long needles in bundles of three give this pine a dense, bushy look and feel
• Very lateral wide spreading branches
• Large cones ripen in the fall

Rocky Mountain Juniper

Juniperus scopulorum

• Upright evergreen juniper 2m to 3m in height, as far as the testing has shown to date
• Form is variable from broad to narrow conical
• Colour varies from blue-green to dark green, winter colours can vary as much as the summer shades
• Small blue cone which give the distinctive ‘juniper’ odor

• Low spiky grass like plant to just over .5m
• Very sharp long thin evergreen leaves
• Occasional flowers on a tall spike in the center of the plant
• Large bell shaped cream colour flowers
