Trembling Aspen
(Populus tremuloides)
Aspen is a fast growing plant that provides good screening, wind protection and a sound barrier. Full sun is always best for aspen until they grove (which are sometimes quite large.)
It produces a smooth greenish bark on immature wood up to 5 years old while older wood becomes white and furrowed.
Landscape Use
Extremely flexible in a landscape as long as it is given some room to spread. (Does not penetrate basements or irrigation systems as some common myths would have you believe.)
Dimensions
A common North American tree usually 7 to 8m high and as wide as it will have room for.
Seasonality

Water Needs
Want to be on drier sites, do not irrigate. Extremely drought tolerant.
Leaves/Flowering
Small roundish leaves with long leaf stems (petioles) that wave in the slightest breeze.
An interesting early flower, similar to a pussy willow when they are young.
